• About the Book

Bob Has an Idea: A Story of the Three Rs
"Bob Has an Idea: A Story of the Three Rs" introduces young children to the concept of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." Bob the hedgehog and a The City People learn the hard way what happens when littering gets out of control. This book was written and illustrated as a Girl Scout Silver Award project by Cadette Troop #456 from GirlScouts-Western Oklahoma.

What can YOU do to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle just like Bob and The City People?
REDUCE means to use less stuff. You can reduce the amount of water bottles you use by refilling the same water bottle instead of getting a new one every time you get thirsty.

REUSE means using things over again and again. You can find creative ways to reuse extra water bottles, like turning a water bottle into a planter or using it for an arts and crafts project.

RECYCLE means to turn your trash into a new product. You can get a recycling bin from the city and send off your recyclables to be turned into other things like toothbrushes.

    Girl Scout Silver Award
This book was written as our Silver Award take-action project. The Silver Award is the highest award that a Cadette Girl Scout can earn. When we started working on our Silver Award we knew we wanted to educate young children about taking care of the environment. We all love to write and draw so we decided the best use of our skills would be to write a book that could be read by lots of kids again and again.

We have all been in the same Girl Scout troop since we were Brownies. As Girl Scouts we have learned many skills that helped prepare us to write this book. We have learned about caring for the environment through Girl Scout Journeys and about working with younger children while being Program Aides. We hope that this book will inspire kids to help the environment and reduce, reuse, and recycle.
